SESSION II SKILLS CAMP A COMPLETE SUCCESS

Many thanks for another great week, as Session II of Summer Camp 2008 comes to a close.  Excellent instruction was provided by coach Dave Morgen, along with coach Sarah and special guest coach Tori, who once again put on a shooting clinic, exhibition and training session for our campers.  Tori Robison of course is on her way to Warner Southern for her college career, and all us at In The Zone Hoop Camps wish her the best of luck and look forward to her future visits.  We also want to acknowledge the efforts of Sarah White, who is on her way to the University of Iowa, and look forward to her return to us next spring and summer.

ITZ campers once again make these events worthwhile, so congratulations to Brandon, Darren, Emily, Chad, Joshua, Colin, Bradley, Andrew, Sara, Ernest, Nicholas, Kacey, Jenna, Katelyn, Johnnie, Cameron, Meagan; and our coaches, Dave, Sarah and Tori.

Our next skills camp (ITZ Session III) is scheduled for June 30-July 3 at Clearwater Central Catholic High School, in association with the City of Largo.  Thanks for your continued participation in our summer camp programs for 2008.

ITZ PASSES SWIM TEST-LET THE CELEBRATION BEGIN!

With our large camp group in attendance, In The Zone Hoop Camps made our annual visit to the Family Aquatic Center at Clearwater Beach on Thursday.  Dressed in yellow, we were hard to ignore as our campers and staff made our way off the bus (yellow of course), and following a short swim test (we all passed), made our way into the pool to begin a full day's celebration of what has been a fabulous week of basketball camp.

The day was complete with competitive water-basketball games, games of shark, hanging out in the huge mushroom fountain and the tall corkscrew water slide-we had a blast!  Lots of snacks, a delicious pizza lunch from Captains of Clearwater Beach, and ice cream for all made for a perfect ending to our day in the sunshine.

Returning to Countryside, we closed our week with certificates for our campers and counselors, marking not only their participation, but also to recognize the success of the week and the goals we set out at the start.  Congratulations to our memorable Session I campers of 2008-the greatest ever!

Thanks to Sean, Hunter, Alexander, Brandon D., Daniel, Emily, Dallas, Mark R., Daniel, Jonathan, Nathaniel, Monica, Caroline, Adam, Sheldon, Mason, Zachary, Rhoss, Ian, Charles, Hayden, Benjamin, Thomas, Matthew, Brandon, Eytan, Mark H., Anthony, Jenna, Michael, Bradley, Jesse, David, Hannah, Dave, Tori, Sarah, Lindsey, Sharee, Heidi and Shea.

It was the best of times-see you soon, "In The Zone".

YELLOW RULES DAY 3 AT SUMMER CAMP 2008

"I've never seen so many yellow T-shirts", said a visitor on Wednesday at ITZ Summer Camp 2008!  The day was filled with continued activities, following our annual "photo op" to show off our limited edition official camp T's that are only available during our summer day camp weeks every year.

Highlights of the day included defensive instruction, supplementing Coach Morgen's visit on Tuesday.  Our catch/shoot/chase/defend drill taught a valuable lesson about desire, heart and hustle.  After lunch, we took the playground by storm, and then the Little League Field once again for Flag-Tag.  The rest of the day was spent reviewing our drills and clinics, games of "dog and bone" and round-robin scrimmages on both full courts.

Tomorrow, it's off to the Family Aquatic Center at Clearwater Beach for a day of sun, fun, swimming, pool-basketball, pizza, ice-cream and more!

CAMPERS SHINE ON DAY 2 OF ITZ SUMMER CAMP 2008

Our campers arrived right on time this morning and picked up where we left off on Monday, with more exciting activities on "Wear Your Favorite Jersey Day".  The full day was filled with skill training linked to offense and defensive technique that is invaluable to playing the game successfully.  Our campers learned the importance of "getting back", and making a commitment to an over-all view of the game.  These kids really love to play and learn, and our coaches are certainly enjoying the effort that the campers are putting in.

After our picnic lunch and recess, we took over the outfield grass at Countryside Little League Field and played an In The Zone favorite, Flag-Tag.  We were all happy to return to the relative comfort of the indoor gym after our games in the Florida sunshine to find coach Dave Morgen on hand with Warner Southern's Tori Robison, who played for Coach Morgen at Dixie Hollins High School, where she had 1,500 points for her high school career and broke the school record for 3-point shots, making 52 3-pointers in her sophomore year.  Tori participated in drills and a shooting exhibition that certainly made an impression on all of us.  Coach Morgen's clinic highlighted the afternoon, and we look forward to his return next week as he directs our skills camp at Countryside Recreation.

Campers and staff, thanks for another great day at summer camp!

ITZ SUMMER CAMP IS BACK WITH HOOPS, FUN AND FRIENDS

It's been a year in the making.  The campers are here, the counselors are back (with a new addition or two), the Krispy-Kremes are delicious as always, and the kids are having a ball!  From beginning to end, this will be a week to remember for session one of ITZ Summer Camp 2008 at Countryside Recreation Center in Clearwater.

From the opening bell we were off and running this morning; well almost off and running until we each exchanged a shoe or two to break the ice and make some new friends, and catch up with our large returning roster of campers.  Then it was right into our favorite daily warm up, Dodge Ball, where the kids battled to a draw.  The campers participated in several drills and instruction, featuring passing/catch and shoot routines, 2 on 2's, offense/defense, 3-line slide, star wars, and the all important "outlet" drill-one they'll never forget!  We also had time for multiple scrimmage instruction in the morning and afternoon, where the Monkey-Men (and girls), Vampires, Oompa-Loompas and Zombies played in a fun and sometimes competitive setting.

Here's a few photo highlights from the day, with more fun and action scheduled for tomorrow, including our guest speaker, coach Dave Morgen, who will joining us in the afternoon for one of his special group clinics.  Thanks campers for a great opening day!

THANKS FOR A GREAT WINTER CAMP

Our ITZ Winter Camp 2007 was a great success, and we had the pleasure of meeting several new campers who plan on training with us in the New Year.  The 3rd Annual Camp in Clearwater at Countryside Recreation was held indoors and out and included all the drills, personalized instruction and fun games we've enjoyed in the past.  Some of the highlights were Shooter (all three versions), The Star, 3 Line Pass and Shoot, Dodge Ball, Around the World, Offense/Defense Gladiator, Blue verses Red in the 3-Point Shootout, Dog & Bone and morning/afternoon scrimmage, plus more.  As part of our daily recess after group picnic lunch, we headed to the playground for outdoor activities, and the highlight as always was Flag Tag on the back field-our campers just love this game!

Many thanks to our attendees and staff, with special appreciation to the members of the Palm Harbor University High School Lady 'Canes who took the time to help and mentor our campers during Winter Camp 2007.  We wish you continued success as the team battles in the always competitive PCAC.  Thanks to Amber, Ashwin, Connor, Dallas, Dana, David, Emily, Jaboe, Keshav, Lindsey, Maralee, Paige, Sarah, Shea and Sharee for another memorable day camp experience.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon, "In The Zone".

CONDITIONING RECORD BROKEN

ITZ veteran campers Ernest Rillman and Noah Morris established new camper M-TAP training records last night, as the pair made 14 layups each through the M-TAP Ladder Drill in 90 seconds.  The overall record of 15 made shots is held by Palm Harbor University High School basketball player Sarah White, a frequent contributer and junior counselor at In The Zone Hoop Camps.  The challenge is to high step through an 8 foot flat training ladder and complete a shot and rebound, training continuously until time expires.

Contact us at
info@itzhoops.com for more information on how to register for our exclusive M-TAP Mobility Training and Agility Program, and join the competition.
